Congo Powers and the Pink Monkey Birds

Got to see Kid Congo in action in downtown Phoenix. I've been a fan of Congo Powers since his stint with The Cramps & The Gun Club. This was the first time I saw him live. The band played their "Dracula Boots" LP in its entirely. Since Congo's guitar style is open tuning..I presented him with a cigar box guitar I made (for him). He was quite happy!

Slim Cessna's Auto Club was the co-headliner & played 2nd in line. I've heard of them before, but never their music. An interesting performance that drew most of the attendees that night.

Phoenix's The Rebel Set opened the show & (for me) was the highlight of the night! Great '60s influence garage with mind melting Farfisa organ. I will start gathering some of their music & hopefully get a chance to see them again!!

The Valley Bar is in the basement of an older building with an entrance in the back--down an alley. A slight challenge to find if you've never been there. A good place to see a show.
